A defence engineering company conducting a wide variety of activities for the UK MoD and prime contractors across the wider UK and international defence communities. The core business includes systems and platform integration; design and manufacture; guided weapon technology and system research in areas such as Ballistic Missile Defence.
This role requires a high calibre Stress Engineer to provide support to a major development project.
Requirements
To lead the team supporting a major project, as a senior Stress Engineer. Reporting to the Head of Structural Integrity, and tasked by the Project Chief Engineer, the candidate will be expected to maintain the structural integrity function within the business. To be experienced and proficient in managing and performing structural assessment, as part of design development and qualification. Quality – to maintain the department’s Standards and support internal and external audits. To be actively involved in the mentoring and development of staff. To identify appropriate training.

Mechanical engineering background with extensive experience of the analysis of parts and assemblies. Competent in stress analysis using conventional and finite element. Team player but able to work on own initiative. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrable skills in the generation of stress related data, including load case derivation, trial analysis and the compilation of a Structural Design Record. Ability to represent the organisation as a prime technical contact on projects, and to interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters. An appreciation of defence systems development, design, manufacturing, and trials. Ability to prepare reports for design reviews or customer requirements using MS. Office. Ability to gain relevant information from technical drawings or CAD models. Ability to use computer based tools to both manipulate and to generate data such as loads and stiffness values for strength calculations. Ability to prepare and present analysis models and results for progress meetings or design reviews.
Desirable: Working knowledge of relevant Defence Standards including Def Stan 07-85. Ability to work to tight timescales.
